Roblox is a popular platform among young users, with over 8 million daily users in Europe estimated to be aged 12 or younger. Despite the platform's popularity, media reports indicate that there is a significant lack of awareness among both young users and their parents about the potential risks on the platform.
To address this issue, Europol has developed a game called Cyber Defenders.
In Cyber Defenders, players are given tasks by Europol that lead them to catching criminals. Every task accomplished works towards Europol's goal of raising awareness for cybercrimes.
As the player completes more tasks, they advance through different levels and face different cybercrime challenges, such as fraud, identity theft, and online grooming.
By leveraging a familiar platform and engaging children through a game, Europol hopes to empower young users to navigate the online world safely and making them comfortable asking for help.
In the development of the game, key safety measures were implemented. This does not eliminate the need for adult supervision.
