The Recovered Collection was a special one-off art exhibition hosted at Europol’s headquarters in The Hague, featuring stolen cultural goods and artworks that had been recovered by the Italian Carabinieri. The exhibits were recovered over the course of four Carabinieri operations, conducted with the support of Europol, and had an estimated total value of several hundreds of thousands of euros. The exhibition also featured as part of an open day at Europol HQ, allowing members of the public to see the exhibition as well.
Europol is immensely grateful to our partners in the Carabinieri for allowing us to host these important artefacts and artworks. In the brochure for The Recovered Collection, you can learn more about the exhibits featured and the operations that saw the objects taken back from organised criminals. You can also find out more information on the ways Europol supports the fight against cultural goods crime.
As the EU’s law enforcement agency, Europol supports the EU Member States in the fight against cultural goods crime through the experienced specialists and analysts based in the European Serious and Organised Crime Centre. They provide operational coordination and analysis support to investigating officers across the EU. Europol’s role in facilitating police cooperation is crucial, as networks behind this crime area quick to exploit opportunities presented by the globalised market for cultural goods.
