Europol has concluded a Memorandum Of Understanding (MoU) with the European Network of Forensic Science Institutes (ENFSI)*. The MoU will allow for the exchange of knowledge and expertise, underpinning the need for enhanced cooperation in the area of forensic science in the fight against crime.

Wil van Gemert, Deputy Director Operations at Europol says: "Europol works closely together with the EU's national authorities, private industry and other partners, as we have to stand together in fighting the increasing emerging threats from organised crime. The intensified relations with ENSFI will aid our cooperation in the forensic science part of law enforcement work".

Üllar Lanno, Chairman of ENFSI says: "Our members already cooperate with Europol with scene of crime and cyberspace evidence. This MoU is a logic step forward to strengthening our partnership and realising a borderless European forensic science area, where both organisations can play an important role, through data and knowledge exchange."

ENFSI, a network of 65 forensic laboratories from 35 countries was formed in 1995.
