The Council of the EU appoints Catherine De Bolle as new Executive Director of Europol

news

The current commissioner general of the Belgian Federal Police, Catherine De Bolle, has been appointed today, 8 March 2018, by the Council of the EU as our new Executive Director. Europol staff members welcome the appointment and look forward to working together to achieve a safer Europe.

As the new Executive Director, Ms De Bolle will oversee the administration of Europol, the management of its personnel and will be responsible for the performance of tasks assigned to it.

Ms De Bolle was proposed to the Council from a list of suitable candidates by the management board of Europol. Recently, following her selection, she attended a hearing at the European Parliament LIBE committee, which issued a non-binding positive opinion and had the opportunity to meet several Europol staff members in order to ensure a smooth transition to the post.

The term of the current Executive Director, Rob Wainwright, expires on 1 May 2018.
