Today, Rob Wainwright, Director of Europol, hosted the visit of Mr Michael Matheson, Scotland’s Cabinet Secretary for Justice at Europol’s headquarters in The Hague. Mr Matheson was briefed on Europol’s activities and, in particular, those of the three European centres established at Europol: the European Counter Terrorism Centre (ECTC), the European Migrant Smuggling Centre (EMSC) and the European Cybercrime Centre (EC3). During his visit, Mr Matheson also met with the British liaison officers stationed at Europol.
Europol is currently engaged in on-going activities to support policing operations across the United Kingdom, such as those targeting human trafficking, child sexual exploitation and cybercrime. In April this year, Europol supported the Police Scotland and Romanian Police to dismantle a Romanian organised crime network involved in the trafficking of Romanian victims for sexual exploitation in Scotland.
