Law enforcement communicators gather for annual networking event

On 10 & 11 October in The Hague, Europol held its annual conference for law enforcement communications professionals.

Now in its 8th year, this year’s European Law Enforcement Communicators Summit brought together 17 nationalities, to network and share knowledge and experience in their areas of expertise. Representatives included EU police magazine editors, web editors, press and PR specialists and those with other communications roles within a law enforcement environment, including participants from Cepol, Eurojust, OLAF and Interpol.

Participants enjoyed a tour of the new Europol headquarters, as well as presentations from authors Michael Jürgs from Germany, who spoke about his latest book, BKA Europol Scotland Yard: The Hunters of Evil, and Duncan McNab from Australia who has written two books about Outlaw Motorcycle Groups. Among the visiting speakers were also Wenche Bjørngaard, Acting Director of Communications for the Norwegian Police, who spoke about crisis communication following the attacks of 22 July 2011 in Norway.
