Today, Mr Rob Wainwright, the Executive Director of Europol has received the visit of the Chinese Vice Minister for Public Security, Mr Li Wei. The purpose of the visit was to discuss closer international law enforcement cooperation under the strategic agreement signed between Europol and the People's Republic of China in April 2017.
Vice Minister Li Wei and Executive Director Wainwright agreed that it is of great importance to build a strong relationship over the coming years and to jointly explore cooperation in areas such as cybercrime, fraud, drugs trafficking, trafficking of human beings, illegal immigration and counter-terrorism. Vice Minister Li Wei and Executive Director Wainwright specifically underlined the need to cooperate in the area of telecommunications fraud and CEO fraud in 2018, for the mutual benefit of both EU and Chinese citizens.
This visit follows previous meetings between Europol and the Chinese Ministry of Public Security during the past year. Europol, as the European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation, has developed key capabilities in international police cooperation, and provides a platform across Europe and beyond to collectively tackle today’s most pressing security challenges.
