Europol announces winners of 2016 law enforcement photo competition

Europol is pleased to announce the results of its annual international photo competition, which this year attracted over 350 entries from 112 talented law enforcement photographers from across Europe and beyond.

First and second prizes were won by Lavinia Wouters, photographer with the Belgian Federal Police in Brussels. Her first prize image captures the Belgian army and police working together to ensure safety at Brussels Airport, after it reopened following the terrorist attacks of March 2016. The second prize photo is of a Belgian Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) team carrying out an emergency ‘plane crash’ exercise for European DVI teams.
 
Gavin Odell, a police officer with the Australian Federal Police, clinched third prize with his image of police vehicles on call-out in the autumnal mountain ranges of Canberra, Australia.

Open to law enforcement photographers from the EU and those countries with Europol cooperation agreements, this year’s quality entries portrayed the highs and lows of law enforcement work, across the spectrum of services including police, border and customs guards, SWAT teams, Gendarmerie and more.
