Today, more than 100 financial experts from the Dutch Fiscal Information and Investigation Service (FIOD) and Europol attended the first join workshop on financial investigations at Europol’s headquarters in The Hague. The workshop was organised to represent the launch of the strategic partnership between both organisations. It was dedicated to four key topics: operations, capabilities, strategic findings and projects. The participants were financial investigators coming from several FIOD’s units based all over the Netherlands and Europol’s financial experts.
Europol and FIOD share the common goal of fighting against international money laundering and recovering and confiscating the proceeds of crime, one of the true deterrents of organised crime. As a direct result of recent high level meetings held between Europol and FIOD, a strategic partnership was agreed to increase the quality and quantity of international financial investigations throughout Europe, since from those investigations depends the much needed increase of the EU confiscation rate1.
New joint workshops, projects and initiatives between both partners are now expected to follow.
