At the request of the Office of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, the European Cybercrime Centre (EC3) hosted at Europol, chaired an expert advisory group last week to evaluate the use of digital evidence and cybercrime fighting techniques in the course of the ICC’s work. The advisory group included experts from the Australian Federal Police, the Dutch National High Tech Crime Centre and the Colombian National Police.
The way digital evidence is processed and analysed was examined, as well as best practices in online investigation. Panel members will produce a report which will include proposals on fostering the use of digital evidence to support the ICC, which is a vital but challenging task necessary to bring to justice those committing some of the most serious crimes of international concern.
