Economic Crimes Conference builds bridges with non-EU partners

news

From 14-16 October 2013, Europol hosted a TAIEX-funded Economic Crimes Conference in The Hague.

Driven by the concerns and risks to EU stability and security thrown up by economic crime, and particularly organised crime, the conference drew participants from 19 countries* – mainly non-EU – with the aim of building bridges with these potential future law enforcement partners.

The conference agenda covered a wide variety of subjects, informing participants about key EU tools, legislation and opportunities for law enforcement cooperation. Workshops on day two provided overviews of particular economically-motivated crime areas such as counterfeit products, and expert presentations helped participants to understand the real issues involved in preventing and controlling such serious crimes, and the assistance available to them.

TAIEX -  the Technical Assistance and Information Exchange instrument managed by the Directorate-General for Enlargement at the European Commission – provided funding for the event.
