Last week, Europol supported a week of joint actions involving law enforcement authorities from Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Sweden. This joint operational effort resulted in the arrest of four suspects aged between 35 and 40 years in Bodø, Norway on Sunday, 10 May 2015. The suspects were caught while attempting to break into a jewellery store via the roof of the premises.
This arrest was the outcome of an intensive surveillance operation which monitored the suspects' movements from their initial arrival in Stockholm, by ferry from Tallinn, across more than 1000 km through Sweden to the city Bodø in Norway. Police forces in Finland, Norway and Sweden cooperated closely to track the suspects. At their destination, the suspects thoroughly prepared for the heist, scouting the shopping centre, buying tools and other equipment needed to perform the break-in. It is clear that the suspects were completely unaware of the police surveillance documenting their activities.
Officers from the participating law enforcement authorities monitored the progress of the operation from Europol's Coordination Centre, which enabled the steady and direct exchange of information and decisions.
Europol was able to facilitate the effective exchange of information and operational cooperation involving several law enforcement authorities, which resulted in the prevention of a serious break-in and the arrest of several suspected mobile offenders.
