This is the sixth edition of the Transparency Report of the European Union Internet Referral Unit (EU IRU), the unit responsible for monitoring the dissemination of publicly available terrorist and violent extremist content online. The EU IRU is concerned with all forms of extremism, such as left-wing, right-wing, and jihadist extremism, among others.

This report provides an outline of the EU IRU’s activities in 2022, covering the IRU’s three areas of work relating to terrorist content online (TCO): TCO monitoring and analysis, referrals, and public-private partnerships. Furthermore, it summarises the EU IRU’s work relating to the Regulation on addressing the dissemination of terrorist content online, which entered into force in 2022. The IRU’s work also supports other crime areas analysed by Europol, with online content and its dissemination playing a role in many modern crime areas.
